About the second, St. Philip Neri was counseling a woman who gossiped. He told her to buy a chicken at the marketplace and return to him, plucking the feathers and letting them fall.
When she returned to him with the chicken, plucked, he told her to go back and pick up all the feathers.
She said, "They'll have scattered now on the wind. There's no way I can do that."
He said, "So it is with your words when you gossip."
